After scouting Zhentil Keep, the group decides the life as a Zhentite isn’t for them and they decide to look for work. After some searching around town, they are directed to a local merchant. The shop owner is named Anders and he is a older man and a little crazy. His store sells spell components, herbs and other alchemy supplies.
One of his trusted suppliers (Gwendoline) has been out of communication for several days and a recent shipments have not come in. He wants the party to head to her farm and see what has happened. Offers them 100G each for their services. He draws them a map and says its about a three day journey.
The party gathers supplies and heads out..
On day 2, the party gets lost trying to stay close to the road in the brush and loses half a day travel trying to find their way back. Once they do, they decide to stay on the road. Later that afternoon as they travel, a few party members notices some people on the right side of the road hiding in ambush. They immediately charge….As they begin to do this, they hear (but didnt see him) magical words coming from the left and the party is ensnared by a Briar Web. The thorns wrap around merritt and he is resigned to fire his orbs from the brush. The party eventually moves out but takes damage as they try. From the bushes emerge 3 Wood Elf Rangers and they attack.
- Some of the party members try to parlay mentioning the Ranger they met a few days ago without luck. The wood elves keep attacking.
- The rogue darts away and hides for a round.
- The Cleric of Tempus battles on and so does the mindless barbarian who kills one of the elves with a single blow.
- Dan’s character is hit multiple times and backs away to heal.
- After a elf falls from the barbarians attack, the Druid comes over and offers them a parlay and to lower weapons.
- The half-orc in a battle rage charges the other Ranger and continues to attack.
- The rogue comes out of the bushes and attack the Druid who casts a spell giving his allies immediate attacks.
- This allows a Ranger to hit the battered Shawn’s Cleric twice and he falls down dead as dirt….
- The 2nd ranger falls down and the Druid flees.
- The party eventually kills the 3 ranger.
The party gathers up the unconscious rangers, strips them and ties them to a tree. inspecting the bodies reveals markings of Silvanus, but altered and different from the normal standard.
The party takes the rangers long swords and daggers. They bury their dead companion and Merritt pisses on his grave.
The party continues down the road and discovers a human caravan that was attacked. 6 humans from Zhentil keep lay dead and all supplies were taken. Arrows stuck in the wood appear to be made from Wood Elves…..
Doing a more detailed search they find a hidden wooden box in one of the wagons. They open it and the find a scroll sealed with a wax seal of Bane on it. Merritt detects magic and says they shouldn’t open it. After much debate, Dan’s character opens the seal. As he does, the entire pary is blinded by a bright light. After 30s of blindness, they can see again…When they do, Dan’s cleric has blood pouring from his eyes, ears, nose and mouth. He is dazed, confused and unable to talk. When looking at the scroll, it appears blank….
